I designed marketing materials for a new play opening next month. The world premiere of Leaving the Blues opens at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco on March 3rd. This was a wonderful project to work on and I love how everything turned out. It utilizes powerful and beautiful photography with simple graphic elements. I designed the whole set including two posters, a mailable postcard, standard two-sided postcard, digital ads and a TV screen graphic.
Here is something a little bright for these short winter days. I've been working on a new organic inspired card collection. First up are these brand new floral thank you cards featuring tulips and roses and even a little bee! Everyone loves receiving thank you cards. These are available in singles and soon in packs and include bright red envelopes. These will really stand out in the mail!
I have a limited supply available on Etsy.
Part of the collection includes this abstract tulip pattern in peach and rusty red. Interior is blank for your own custom message. These cards are great for a variety of occasions including thank yous, or just to say "hello".
Grab it on Etsy.
I'll be revealing more cards soon.
I designed this set of collateral for the West Coast premiere of Daniel's Husband for the New Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. The set includes poster, postcard, web banners and graphics. I also developed the concept with the wedding cake and the lone groom and illustrated it as well. The background is lightly textured to express the tension in the relationship of the main characters.
Daniel's Husband is now playing at the New Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, CA.

This pair of banners measuring over 6 feet in height were designed for the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways for their AquaSMART program for kids. I co-designed them with a coworker at ATCS at Sacramento State. They are used to stand beside the stage at live puppet show performances and trade show events. These retractable banners are portable and easily store in their bases (see photo below). They are great marketing pieces and are increasingly affordable with the rise of digital printing. Read more.
I donate a portion of my time to organizations and causes I care about. Most recently, I have volunteered design services to the new organization Flippable. Their goal is to educate and provide resources to voters in America and to flip red Republican seats to blue Democratic seats across the United States in all levels of government. They believe in progressive causes such as women's rights, voter rights, environmental protection, education, and other social causes. They are using the internet and social media in particular to educate voters about local elections in their states and encouraging them to get involved.
For my first project with them, I created graphics for their "Commit to Flip" campaign that targets specific issues that voters care about. The graphics are used to share on Facebook and Twitter and are pledges made for the new year. The graphics are simple and effective, utilizing Flippable's logo, their color palette, and a bold image that depicts each specific issue.
I'm really proud of the work they're doing and glad I can be a small part of it.
Last year I started doing work for the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco. The first project was creating promotional materials for Avenue Q. (The musical is extended through January 22nd; go see it if you can!) The materials include a poster, postcard, various digital ad banners and graphics, and an ad in the MUNI (the San Francisco public transit rail system).
For the main graphic, I illustrated holiday lights to weave through the "Q" since the performance would run through the holiday season. I really love how the lights look like they're glowing, even in the printed pieces. I was able to visit San Francisco and see the MUNI ad in person in November and was really happy with how it turned out. (Please excuse the poor picture quality! The subway lighting is harsh.)
All the promotional pieces tie together really well and I'm so thrilled with how it all turned out. See more here. I'm currently working on other shows for the NCTC and look forward to sharing them.
Well, it's here. It finally happened. 2017! I'm so glad to get out of the gloom of 2016 and into a new year. I'm trying to be positive that it will be a good one. I'm also hoping to post more to my blog and share more of my client work. I have a bit of a backlog of work that I need to post both to the blog and my online portfolio. I worked on some great projects in 2016 and have more lined up for 2017. Please keep an eye on the blog, or feel free to add it to your RSS feed if you have a reader.
Thanks for following along. I look forward to another productive & creative year.
Please have a fantastic New Year celebration and many, many wishes for a positive and creative 2017.
Happy Mid-Week to you all,

Last month I did some work for the New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC) in San Francisco. I designed web graphics and print materials for their upcoming musical Avenue Q. One of the pieces I designed is an ad in the SF MUNI (San Francisco Municipal Railway—who by the way, have a fantastic logo.) It's pretty large in size, measuring roughly 5 feet by 4 feet.
While in San Francisco last weekend, I was able to see the ad in the subway. Please excuse the poor photo quality; the subway lighting is not too kind. If you're taking public transit in SF, keep an eye out for these fun ads and catch the musical which is playing December 2 through January 15 at NCTC.
Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered holiday cards. I have a few extra sets for sale that are now available for purchase in my Etsy shop. You can get them in sets of ten and there are several designs available. Check them out here. They just arrived from the printer this week and they look amazing. They come with beautiful red envelopes from American paper company, French Paper.
A bunch of my new holiday patterns were just added to Spoonflower. They're also having a BOGO sale on fat quarter fabrics until November 9th. Here are the new designs which feature fun holiday ornaments. My Winter Wear collection with cute scarves, hats and mittens is still available as well.
Have a wonderful weekend!
