Hi there, look, another new fabric arrival! I've got two new watercolor floral patterns available now. One is watercolor florals and the other is dino florals. These are the first of many more watercolor patterns I hope to release over the next year. I'm thrilled with how these turned out. They were created with my own original watercolor illustrations. Samples were approved last week and these patterns are now available on Spoonflower. I printed these out on Kona Cotton fabric, my favorite 100% cotton fabric which is great for quilting and making home goods like pillows and napkins. They are available on a variety of fabrics including cottons and polys.
Happy Friday! I have a fun client project to share with you.
I designed this custom pattern for cookbook author Jenn de la Vega to promote her new book Showdown Comfort Food, Chili & BBQ: Bold Flavors from Wild Cooking Contests. She gave me a list of foods and items she wanted included (burger, tongs, spatula, garlic, bacon, etc.) and I used it to create this repeating pattern. It is currently available for sale on Spoonflower and will also be applied to a variety of goods.
Fun fact: Jenn and I met many years ago when we were both DJs and staff members at KDVS freeform radio in Davis, California. She now lives in Brooklyn, NY. It was wonderful working with her again (I also created this custom thank you card for her) and I love watching her food career soar.
Go buy her book, available now.
Its been a fabric-filled week on the blog, and today is no different! Spoonflower just announced a 15% off sale that runs until Monday at 10am EST. This applies to fabric, gift wrap and wallpaper, so what are you waiting for? I have dozens of designs available. You can also pick up the new custom BBQ fabric I designed for cookbook author Jenn de la Vega.
My "Olives" pattern is now available on fabric! As seen on these note cards, you can now get this design printed through Spoonflower on a variety of fabrics including quilting cotton, knits and organics, as well as on a roll of gift wrap and wallpaper. This is an original print featuring my illustrations of olives, leaves and flowers.
As promised earlier this year, I have three new fabrics to add to the Summer Sweets collection! They're called "Confetti" and are available in three colorways—strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. They partner well with the other fabrics in the collection, and are fun and bright and perfect for your Summer craft projects. They are available for purchase on a variety of fabrics (I really love the Kona cotton, which is a great quilting option) and as giftwrap on Spoonflower.
The world premiere of Warplay opens tonight at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco. I designed the poster, postcard, web banners, and other promotional materials for this new production. If you're in the city, go check it out.
I designed the promo materials for the San Francisco premiere of the play Sordid Lives running now at the NCTC. It was recently extended to June 24th, so go check it out. I designed the poster, postcard, digital ads and other promo pieces.
Happy first day of June! I'm hard at work in my studio, but wanted to share a sneak peak of one of my newest patterns, this fun floral dinosaur print that I'm finishing up. I'm getting samples made soon and hope to have it available on fabric by the end of the month. I've always loved dinosaurs and the mix of vibrant plants and cute watercolor illustrations works great for this piece.
I'm expanding more of my illustration work from purely vector illustration into analog watercolor painting and its been so much fun. It is great to get a break from the computer screen and back to old fashioned paper and watercolor paints.
Thanks for following along. Can't wait to share the final product.
I designed a custom thank you card for my friend, chef extraordinaire, caterer, and cookbook author Jenn de la Vega who just released her first cookbook called Showdown Comfort Food, Chili & BBQ. It's available now, so pick it up on Amazon or your favorite local book seller. She wanted a card that matched the style of her book, so we worked together in creating this fun grilled steak illustration and design. We went through a couple variations before settling on this one. I had a blast working on it. I also created some patterns which I hope to share shortly!
Below are some early versions that weren't chosen, but show the process of this project.
The Good Women of Setzuan is a new play performed by the NCTC High School Performance Ensemble in San Francisco, CA. I designed the look and marketing materials for this unique play which starts Friday April 28th and runs through May 7th. More information available here.
Last year I debuted the Summer Sweets fabric collection on Spoonflower. Its been getting a little love over there, so I thought I'd share again. I'm proud to announce that I plan on expanding it this year with more exclusive designs! This is one of my favorite sets with playful illustrations of delicious ice cream cones and Popsicles. It has a retro color palette and is even more brilliant in person. You can buy it on a variety of fabric types, wallpaper and gift wrap at Spoonflower. Go ahead, treat yourself.
I made a set of napkins with Sprinkle Cones printed on my favorite Kona Cotton. They're super durable having been in use for a year and washed many times with no noticeable fading. They definitely bring a nice POP to my napkin collection.
Everything That's Beautiful is now playing at the New Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. It's getting fantastic reviews. It runs through April 23.
I designed the promotional materials including posters, postcard, and digital ads.
I had the pleasure of creating a custom illustration for one of my long-time friends' baby shower. Their theme was hiking and the outdoors with their mascot being a mountain goat. I created a vector illustration which was then applied to invites, fabric, thank you cards and wood coasters.
I also created a repeating pattern and had it printed on fabric through Spoonflower. I used the fabric to sew a set of burp cloths. (There are a ton of tutorials online, but basically I found a fun purple flannel fabric and cut out rectangles of each fabric and sewed them right sides together, then flipped them right side out, and sewed the opening shut.) One yard of each fabric was enough to make 6 burp cloths.
This was a fun project where I got to use my illustration and design skills, as well as create tangible (and very useful!) objects.
These very cool wood coasters were created by the husband of the baby shower planner. I believe they were digitally engraved. They're almost too pretty to set a drink on!
Mountain Goat Fabric is available on Spoonflower.
I received a bunch of samples of work I did for the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco. It's so fun to see these pieces in person. They're all so nice. I love print design!
Included in this batch is the brand new brochure featuring their 17-18 season shows. I designed the brochure and the art for all 7(!) shows. I can't wait to share more with you in the coming months. I got to do a bunch of illustration work and am thrilled with the results.
My new floral greeting card line continues with this "thanks" card featuring an abstract tulip. It's bright and fun and perfect for the spring-like weather we're having on the West coast (unlike the blizzard raging on the East coast right now.)
Pick it up on Etsy, and while you're at it save 15% off with the code SAYTHANKS.
And with that, I say thanks to you for reading :)
