Hello. I'm Heather Klinger, an independent freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator based out of Sacramento, California.

I am a designer, illustrator, and creative consultant who values the process of design and is dedicated to solving problems and creating effective and creative design solutions. My specialties are in page layout, vector illustration, pattern design, and print design.

I love print design, especially when used in conjunction with sustainable and eco-friendly methods. Tangible print pieces are still valid in our modern world and I have experience in creating a variety of print materials.

My clients have included Sacramento State, New Conservatory Theatre Center, KDVS Radio, Women's Global Leadership Initiative, King Arthur Flour and others including independent hair stylists and cookbook authors.
I have been working in the design field for more than ten years as both a freelancer and a staff designer.

I am currently a full-time independent freelancer working with individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations primarily in the arts, education, media, food, and creative fields. I'm always looking for a new design adventure, so please get in touch if you're interested in working with me.

Along with custom design and illustration, I also sell a line of greeting cards and paper goods.

More about Me

My journey in graphic design started in the basement at UC Davis in a college/community radio station. I was a high school student and I wandered in with a couple of friends and started volunteering for the publicity department where I got briefed on the design softwares Photoshop, Pagemaker and later, inDesign. I had always been artistic and loved to draw and paint, but I didn’t know that these skills could lead to a job. The department was overseen by a design major and a few years later when I was looking at college, I knew I wanted to be a graphic designer.

Over the next decade I supported myself through school. I worked as a file clerk in an insurance office, served as Publicity Director at KDVS for one year designing the quarterly program guide, promoted to general manager of an indie record label and store, and interned at a design studio at Sacramento State. After I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and worked as a full fledged graphic designer in the studio, I decided it was time to do what I’d always wanted and go out on my own as a freelance designer and illustrator and pursue more diverse creative projects.
